Being an entrepreneur by heart, I have been in my own business the last 10 years. I learned that the power of networking and marketing is mostly under-estimated in the early years of having your own business. To pursue your dreams and live your passion, you need to find the perfect channel and network for your type of business, so that you can thrive with the others inside your chosen network.
These networks change over time, as you develop and broaden your ideas about marketing and networking.
Your supplier and customer networks are equally important as they are interdependent and continuously evolving. With more sophisticated needs coming from your customers as your reputation grows, your choice of suppliers must be such that you are able to adapt to these needs.
I had to adapt quickly during my 5 years of floral décor for weddings and corporate functions, where needs of brides and event coordinators had to be fulfilled to the last detail. Commitment to detail and a finely tuned sense of what is implicitly expected by the clients, were the most important traits during these years. Word-of-mouth was my best advertising for referenced business, but it was backed up by a strong marketing drive to ensure that my business was in the public eye, and information was always available within a few “clicks”.
My other passion has always been the promotion of women entrepreneurs. I have published 5 editions of Papillon in the first few years of being an entrepreneur myself, feeling the hard lessons to be learned in establishing a business. I have met so many passionate entrepreneurs that I cannot bear not to tell their success stories so that others can learn form this collective experience.
Papillon Diary 2011 will be another adventure of wandering through new and established women entrepreneurs’ business lives, encouraging and supporting in this new network environment, knowing that exposure is for a full 365 days, when this year’s passion is transferred to the next edition. |
